a naked male figure in a street, or... they talked about sex and drink and religion but it was difficult to understand as the words they used were from their extyraordinarily rich colloquial vernacular. What was needed to undstand what they were saying about sex and drink and religion was to seek out a dictionary that specifically embraced these words and not to ignore them as dictrionaries tended to.
